Search Options

Search I, available since 1997, offers only unaccented Greek, using the Symbol font. The search string is entered using LGPN's system of transliteration, which is provided on-screen. It operates in the Unix environment, and anyone with experience of this environment should be able to develop their own search parameters besides those which are offered in the guidelines. Note that this Search does not include names from LGPN IV, and will not be updated in future.

The Symbol font does not display correctly under Netscape 6 on a PC, but otherwise this facility should function on most browsers.

Search II was developed for us by Professor Yannis Charalambous. Its full potential can, at present, only be achieved in Windows 2000 or later versions, though some features work well in other environments. It offers:

  • five options for entering the search string: Beta code, Perseus transcription, Symbol font, Monotonic Greek (Win-1253 encoding) and Unicode.
  • six ways of displaying search results: the five just listed, plus the SmartKeys font (Athenian).
  • the option of searching and displaying results with or without accents.
  • overall totals, as well as totals by volume.
