Image archive - TombstonesPainted tombstone from Demetrias
in Thessaly, c. 225 BC., depicting a funeral banquet. The name of Philonikos was added
after the original burial of Lysippos. Because Lysippos and Philonikos
died while away from their home city of Thebes, their ethnic ‘Theban’
is recorded. The Thebes in question is likely to be either that in nearby
Achaia Phthiotis, Thessaly, or Thebes in Boiotia. LGPN IIIB: Λυσιππος (8); Ξενοφανης (8); Φιλονικος (33); Πολιαρχος (2)
